Nintendo to sell the 3DS at a loss after price cut

As it happens, the 3DS will actually be costing Nintendo money per console sold once the price cut hits on August 12th. The news comes from Nintendo’s CEO Saturo Iwata, who stated:

“this move is necessary in order to improve fiscal performance next year and beyond.”

No word was released on exactly how much money is being lost per unit sold, though many are now beginning to assume that the original estimate of the 3DS costing just $100 to make may have been false, considering that they will be selling the console at $170 and will still be losing money.
