List of best-selling Nintendo games & systems of 2012 so far

Sales mean everything. Well, that may not be true, but they certainly are a topic for discussion, and they do keep the industry live and growing. We have compiled an up-to-date collection of Nintendo’s sales in 2012 so far; from software to hardware.

Hardware:

1. Nintendo 3DS – 4.08 million

2. Wii – 2.12 million

3. Nintendo DS/DSi – 1.03 million

Software:

1. Mario Kart 7 (3DS) – 1.63 million

2. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) – 1.42 million

3. Mario Party 9 (Wii) – 1.06 million

4. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) – 0.79 million

5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) – 0.77 million

As we can see – Nintendo no longer dominates the market like it did in 2007-2009 with the DS and Wii popularity explosion. However, they are still performing more than sufficiently to present impressive figures, with 3DS sales in particular shining bright. Once the holiday season approaches, 3DS sales should sky-rocket. Expect DS sales to gradually decline, with a slight peak with the release of Pokemon Black & White 2. Wii sales should also be on the decline with the fast approaching re-reveal and eventual release of it’s successor, the Wii U, although sales may pick up considerably if Nintendo announce a price cut to $99 or $129 before the holiday period.

Mario Kart wii and super mario bros sales are INSANE considering they came out years ago and have already sold like over 20 million.
