Will Unreal Engine 4 run on Wii U? Perhaps…

Yesterday, a rumour spread suggesting that Unreal Engine 4 would not be on Wii U. Epic has now commented on this rumour.

So, the original story was that videogame journalist and Spike TV presenter Geoff Keighely had tweeted that the Wii U would instead feature games created using Unreal Engine 3 – referencing comments made by Epic CEO Mike Capps at GDC in March.

In a slight turn of events, however, Epic have stated that the platforms that Unreal Engine 4 will support will remain ‘unconfirmed beyond PC’ for the time being.

We believe that Nintendo will do its utmost to ensure that Unreal Engine 4 is running on Wii U – even it it isn’t ready at launch and takes time. Unreal Engine 4, like Unreal Engine 3, will likely be the most used engine for third-party multiplatform games, and as a result Nintendo should aim to have it running on their system to ensure good support. Considering that Crytek’s next generation engine, Cryengine 3, is apparently already running on the Wii U, we would not be surprised if Unreal Engine 4 is too – but we will have to wait until E3 to find out as things aren’t clear at the moment.

Will Unreal Engine 4 be coming to the Wii U? How important do you think it is to Nintendo that it is supported? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
